How has walking or long hikes changed your perspective on life?
Walking is one of the simplest acts most of us do every day, likely without even thinking about it. It is often the simplest acts, I believe, which actually have the greatest power for changing things in our lives and around the world.
I’ve spent several summers (2012, 2015, 2016 and 2018) walking 1000 mile pilgrimages along the west coast of California and Oregon. These “pilgrimages” as I call them, were truly some of the most profound times in shaping my perception of truth and learning the “wisdom of the road.” I met so many incredible people along these journeys, from locals in the towns I walked and passed-thru, to other travelers, cyclists and fellow hikers I would meet at the campground on different nights.
I’m curious, have you ever done a long hike or walk? How has your experience of walking impacted how you saw life or what you thought to be possible?
